Happy Friday the 13th! Welcome back to the Friday Five, your roundup of joyful, cathartic content curated from the crevasses of the internet and my mind.
Song: I put this song in a Friday Five back in 2021, and I’m bringing it back because we have to honor Frankie Beverly this week. Here’s what I wrote about the song three years ago, every word still resonates: Could I pick a better song title? Frankie Beverly & Maze’s ‘Happy Feelin’s’ is seven minutes and twelve seconds of beautiful sunlight, warmth, and good energy. You can’t listen to it without 1) moving, 2) smiling, 3) ideally both 1 + 2 at the same time. Play this while you’re outside on a walk or jog, take five slow, deep breaths, and remember that most of the time all we can do is put one foot in front of the other and keep moving. Rest in peace to a legend.
Political Moment: I have been uttering this one stupid line from the Presidential debate to myself, to my dog, to anyone in my vicinity. Will we ever find out who Abdul is? Is he real? I assume it’s a racist flub, but I’m keen to know his response to this.
Recipe: Did y’all know I wrote a cookbook? I constantly feel like I’m not good at self-promotion, I don’t do enough marketing for it, I should be putting myself out more and doing more to hype it up — maybe there will be a Consumed on that sometime soon but in the interim, I’m loosely sharing one of the recipes for rosewater whipped creme. It’s lovely on its own with fruit, paired with french toast or pancakes for a decadent breakfast, or on the side of a slice of cake! All it takes is about a tiny half teaspoon of rosewater into any standard whipped cream recipe: I chill my stand mixer bowl and whisk beforehand, throw in heavy cream, a pinch of salt and a tablespoon of sugar + the rosewater and let it whip. Enjoy it. And if you’ve made it this far: leave Maman and Me a review on Amazon! I need more reviews and would so appreciate your support!
Delicious Beverage: At an event for Great Jones last night, I got to try the new Ghia Fizz (shout out to Ghia founder Melanie, an OG consumer!) and I was honestly delighted. It gave me the punch of flavor I love in a lambrusco without any of the booze, added sugar, or hanxiety the next morning. I’m also really into strawberry juice being the second ingredient — drinking sparkling strawberries feels chic to me! Not sponsored, just a genuine reco.
