I needed a two week hiatus from newsletter writing because life sent me on a whirlwind adventure that I’m still recovering from! Without further ado, here’s your Friday Five:
Song: This song has been all over TikTok for a month now, and for those of you who are fortunate enough to not have been sucked into that platform, you need to hear Lizzo’s latest. Take a few minutes out of your day to celebrate yourself and how far you’ve come with this bop — it’s bad bitch o’clock.
TV Show: HBO’s Hacks is giving me so much life. I don’t want to share a ton of context about the show because it’s worth going into it with an open mind! Imagine an iconic cast, both niche and laugh-out-loud silly humor, Jean Smart in a role deserving of her talents and capabilities, and Meg Salter as the perfect Gen Z employee. I would like to live in the Hacks universe, even momentarily, because this show brings me constant joy.
Internet Interaction: A very special thank you to consumer Katherine Springer for sharing this gem from Twitter. Someone whose username makes me definitely think they’re not from Paris shared this plate of theirs — ironically or not, you decide — claiming what is very clearly Popeyes is their home cooking. This led to memes, roasts, a clever response from Popeyes themselves. You have to respect the sheer audacity here, and the amount of time strangers on the internet have in the replies, which you should absolutely scroll through.
Historical Moment: Have you ever seen Miss Piggy’s Calendar of Calendars? The queen muppet made a calendar in 1983 spoofing other celebrity calendars of the time, which includes this incredible, heroic image. Everything about this calendar is perfect and I want to make prints out of each month: scroll through the photos here and send me your favorite.
