Hi y’all! Happy Friday, we made it! And speaking of made it, the folks at Substack just made their very first app for Phone:
I subscribe to way too many Substacks and have long wanted one centralized place to read them, which is precisely what this app does! New posts will never get lost in your email filters, or stuck in spam. Longer posts (you know I love to go over length) will never cut-off by your email app. Comments and rich media will all work seamlessly. Overall, it seems like a big upgrade to the reading experience! Now let’s get into the joy.
Song: Goodness, this song rocks. Wham!’s “Everything She Wants” is infectiously catchy, an earworm you can’t get rid of. Yes, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go” would’ve been the obvious choice here but you don’t read my newsletter for common sense.
If you’re already a fan or this is your first time listening, I’d love to know your commentary on this song and what part is your favorite to belt out. For me, it’s a toss up between the “ah ah ah, ooh ooh ooh, uh huh uh huh…” refrain or “SOMEBODY TELL ME… WHY I WORK SO HARD FOR YOU (got to give you money)” bit. Joyful and cathartic!!!
Celebrity Sighting: I’m obsessed with this video of Jake from State Farm spotted at a basketball game, never not working. Thank you Joelle for bringing this into my life.
Cute Animals: These capybaras are taking a steamy bath with oranges in Japan. That sentence reads like a mad libs line, but here is delightful video proof. The big guy chewing on bark is doing so to keep his teeth to a reasonable length (spooky or cute? you decide). When I think about what achieving bliss might be, this is what it looks like.
Poem: Cameron Awkward-Rich’s “Meditations In An Emergency” is a perfect poem, gutting and beautiful all at once.
