Am I allowed to call this a Friday Five if I send it out on a Sunday? It’s my newsletter and technically I do make the rules around here, so I think it’s fine, but I feel compelled to ask y’all.
The past few weeks have been some of the most hectic and intense work weeks I’ve had in a long time, so that’s why this is coming to you a bit late. For any newbies here, welcome to a weekly roundup of joyful, relaxing, cathartic, and lovely content from all corners of the internet.
Quick Read: There is something so very special about the friendships that form between women. I was thrilled to share a few words about one of my nearest and dearest friendships in Passerby for Valentine’s Day. Platonic love can take so many different forms and looks different from person to person, I hope reading these stories makes you reflect on your besties and your chosen family. Also, tell them how they make you feel and why you appreciate them if you haven’t lately.
Song: “Bury Me Next To You” is one of my favorite love songs of all time. The subtle instrumentation feels like spring sunshine, Bilal’s vocals sound like a breezy long afternoon, and a warm hug. Maybe a better descriptor would just be ‘warm fuzzies,’ and I love that music can make us feel all these things.
Recipe: I love making butter mochi — it is easy, delicious, and satisfying without being too heavy. This Mochi Brownie recipe from Hetty McKinnon is a stellar take on it, coming together in one bowl. You’ll need to find Mochiko flour at an Asian grocer but all of the other ingredients are easily accessible!
Article: Hunter Harris, one of the greatest culture writers of our time, profiled Usher (one of the greatest musicians of our time) for next month’s GQ. Everything about this article was thoughtful, fun, and entertaining. I saw Usher in Vegas last year and it was hands down one of the best shows I’ve ever witnessed, by an entertainer at the top of his freaking game. I would go back at least two more times.
